aims
The course deals with fundamentals of accelerator and beam physics (101). You will learn about the treatment of particle motion in accelerators and experience applied programming techniques.
requirements
Introductory course in physics and maths.
Interest in particle accelerators.
structure / topics / contents
The course consists of a series of talks with an introduction to accelerator physics and project work by the students. The talk series deals with basic principles of particle acceleration and manipulation. For the second part, we wil offer either programming topics like basic simulation programs for transverse and longitudinal beam dynamics or a presentation about an in-depth topic like coherence or free electron laser.

2 SWS, 6 SP/ECTS (Arbeitsanteil im Modul für diese Lehrveranstaltung, nicht verbindlich)
oral examination with a short talk or project presentation followed by a discussion
other
What do we need particle accelerators for and how do they work? How can we generate a partcle beam and change its properties? How do basic accelerator elements like magnets and accelerating cavities work? What is synchrotron radiation?
With this course we want to try to get first glimpse into the fascinating work of accelerator physics and technology. For this we look at selected topics and work through linear beam dynamics.
