This is a master-level reading group, with 1 talk per week given by the participants themselves. Bibliography for preparation of the talks will be provided. The basic purpose of the seminar is to become familiar with various mathematical aspects of conformal field theories, in particular: conformal symmetries, vertex operator algebras and their representation, Lie algebras and Kac Moody algebras, modularity. This will prepare us to approach topics like the Monstrous Moonshine (related to conformal field theories with symmetry given by the Monster group), 6d superconformal theories and 4d supersymmetric theories of class S. All the necessary background will be introduced during the seminar. In the first meeting we will discuss the planning of the talks.
