In this seminar, we want to discuss methods and techniques for the fabrication and characterization of energy-relevant materials. In particular we will study spectroscopic and microscopic methods used at synchrotron radiation sources. The application of these methods for in situ/operando studies of new materials for energy storage and conversion are discussed.

In the seminar, students will prepare presentations the production, characterization and use of new / current energy-relevant functional materials using synchrotron-based spectroscopic and microscopic methods.

Also the following topics will be discussed:
How do I give a scientific presentation?
How do I do a scientific literature research?
Scientific ethics, good scientific conduct
How do I write a scientific publication? Authorship
How do I plan a project (experiment, theory, software, funding)?
What are scientific career opportunities?

Interest in synchrotron radiation sources, nanospectroscopy, and energy-related materials.
